Listening to Water Symposium

Uniting to listen, honor and protect the Water that brings life to all

Water has a Right to be listened too, and...

Through an art exhibition and a series of ecocentric conversations, the Listening to Water Symposium explored the Rights of Water. By celebrating the roles, rights (rites) and responsibilities of the more-than-human world, we can not only strengthen our environmental legislation, but also reposition humans in relationship to the ecosystems that bring life to all.

While the Symposium included two virtual events that brought together voices from across the continent, the art exhibition and in person programming took place throughout the Upper St. Lawrence River/Kaniatarowanénhne and Adirondack Watersheds, on traditional Haudenosaunee Territory (in the land that is known by settler communities as New York State). Uniting across watersheds, artists, scientist, traditional knowledge holders, lawyers, environmental stewards, and activist joined together to "listen to the Water" and took actions to honor their responsibility to protect our more-than human relations.
